Despite early adolescence being around for decades, ministry to this demographic of students is actually not getting the attention of the children before them or middle adolescents following them. My purpose is to create an awareness of the need for intentional and theological thinking with regards to early adolescent ministry in the context of a local congregation. Churches must be intentional at reaching students from the very beginning of their adolescent development. This is the driving idea behind the thesis: Congregations must think theologically and developmentally in order to minister effectively to early adolescents. The book will conclude with practical impications for early adolescent ministry in the life of a local congregation. Considerations will be given to the programs that are vital for early adolescents to journey toward intimacy with their Lord. Additionally, the book clearly places early adolescent ministry in a process of discipleship that is not deemed complete or successful until students acknowledge their acceptance into the adult faith community nearly 10-15 years after the early adolescent stage.
